The story of Alteriq Pleasant's death continues to unravel as new information surfaces about the events leading up to his passing while in police custody. Ms. Vickki Willis, his mother, has been fighting to uncover the truth about what happened to her son. She has taken pictures of his body and has been working tirelessly to get access to his belongings and autopsy results.

Ms. Willis was finally given autopsy results from the Cook County Coroner's office in November of 2022, months after her son's death. The Coroner determined that Mr. Pleasant's injuries were inflicted prior to his arrival at the jail and that he was given a substance that killed him just hours after he sustained physical injuries. However, the coroner claimed drug use without conducting any toxicology testing. It was also revealed that no x-rays were done to examine any potential damage and injuries that could have contributed to Mr. Pleasant's death.

Despite the visible injuries, no foul play was detected, and Mr. Pleasant's death was determined to be a result of natural causes. This is despite the fact that he had burns to his arms, legs, and knees, as well as contusions and lacerations.

Ms. Willis has also raised concerns about the possibility of her son's death being induced by a taser or physical abuse, which could mimic the symptoms of a drug overdose. She has questioned the lack of drug testing, which would have helped to confirm whether Mr. Pleasant had any drugs in his system.

Additionally, the second autopsy revealed that Mr. Pleasant had tested positive for COVID-19 despite not testing positive before his arrest or upon entry to the Cook County Jail. This suggests that he may have contracted the virus while receiving medical treatment in the hospital.

One of the most shocking revelations in this case is that Mr. Pleasant's belongings were destroyed by the Chicago Police Department. Ms. Willis only has his blood-stained clothing, which were brand new when he was arrested, and his shirt is now tan and pink from having dirt and blood rinsed out of it.

The details of Alteriq Pleasant's death continue to raise questions about the treatment of detainees in police custody and the transparency of the criminal justice system. Ms. Willis has been tirelessly fighting for justice for her son, and her efforts have shed light on the need for greater accountability and transparency in cases of police brutality and misconduct.
